The park on the lake
Gardaland sits in Castelnuovo del Garda, on the south-eastern shore of Lake Garda, between Verona and Brescia. It is Italy's largest theme park, open since 1975, and one of the most popular destinations for families with children. Beyond the main park, the resort includes the Sea Life aquarium, Legoland Water Park and two themed hotels, Gardaland Magic Hotel and Adventure Hotel. The rides range from gentle ones for the smallest children to adrenaline coasters such as Oblivion and Raptor, and each has a height limit, so check beforehand whether your child can ride.
The lake around it
A day at the park does not exhaust the area. Nearby are Peschiera del Garda with its old ramparts and Sirmione, the narrow peninsula with a medieval castle; Verona, with its Roman Arena, is about 30 km away. The park is seasonal, roughly from spring to early November, with special dates for events such as Halloween, so check the calendar before choosing a month.
Getting there
The closest airport is Verona Villafranca, about 20 km away; Bergamo and Milan offer more connections. From Peschiera del Garda station, on the Milan–Venice line, a shuttle bus runs to the park. Travellers coming from Albania can also take the ferry to Bari and continue by car. Summer and school holidays are the busiest periods.
